Our History
In 1952 a misprint in the Christian Standard led two families seeking an Independent Christian Church to the corner of Franklin and Jefferson in Decatur, Illinois. The congregation referenced was actually in Decatur, Indiana. However, this experience may have led to the charter of Northwest Christian Church.
Our first service was held November 9, 1952 under the name Northwest Church of Christ. Approximately a month later, the congregation began to use property at the corner of Garfield and Union Streets. In 1955, Northwest began to meet at a location on North Hunt Street. In 1961, Northwest acquired the property at its present location, North Stanley Avenue. In August of 1961, Northwest changed its name to Northwest Christian Church.
